about

Lou Carenar

After studying philosophy at the ENS, I turned to filmmaking, taking a course at the INA. I made my first self-produced documentary, La mécanique des sens (1h), about male sexuality and its stereotypes. The project caught the attention of France TV. This enabled me to make two documentaries for Slash, produced by ZED: Jouis si t’es un homme (60 min) and (In)Fidèles (45 min), about sexuality, gender and relationships.

At the same time, I’m exploring fiction. I took part in several writing residencies (SAFIRE, Clap de Paname, Moulin d’Andé – Prix du Moulin d’Andé at the Côté Court festival) and a training course at the Cité Européenne des Scénaristes, where I had the opportunity to follow Benjamin Dupas and Léonore Confino on a feature film project.

I directed two short films: La flamme dans ses yeux (2 min 20), for the Nikon Festival 2024, and Full Metal Basket (10 min), produced by Clap de Paname.

Self-taught in photography, I first assisted at the Little Grand Studio, before working as a digitech for the Sheriff agency, for brands such as Margiela, AMI, Jacquemus and Amina Muaddi. I am the photographer and art director for a number of personal photography projects, as well as for young brands such as Barkalnd, which creates unisex and upcycled clothing.

Questions of identity, representation and stereotypes run through all my projects.
